Downtown LA Metro Service Halted for Weekend Upgrades
Metro subway service through downtown Los Angeles will be temporarily suspended this weekend to allow for electrical upgrades as part of a larger Metro improvement project.
What You Need to Know
The service suspension begins Friday, November 15, at 9 p.m. and ends Monday, November 18, at 4 a.m.
Subway service on the Metro B (Red) and D (Purple) lines will be suspended between Seventh Street/Metro Center Station and Union Station, including the Pershing Square, Civic Center/Grand Park, and Union Station stops.
Alternative Transit Options:
- Metro A (Blue) Line can be used between Seventh/Metro and Union Station.
- Free shuttle buses will run between Pershing Square and Seventh/Metro.
- Metro J (Silver) Line express buses and local buses will provide additional connections.
- Riders traveling between Civic Center/Grand Park and Seventh/Metro can also use the J Line or local bus services.
- Metro A (Blue) and E (Expo) Lines offer service between Seventh/Metro and Historic Broadway Station at Broadway and Second Street.
This closure supports “traction power cutover activities” related to upgrades at a downtown rail yard, including tunnel widening, a new train turnback facility, and train storage track adjustments.

How It Impacts You
Property managers in downtown Los Angeles should anticipate potential disruptions this weekend due to changes in subway service.
Tenants and visitors relying on the Metro B and D Lines may experience delays or need to seek alternative routes.
Also expect more vehicular traffic near affected areas, especially around shuttle bus stops and alternative transit hubs.
Consider notifying tenants on Metro’s alternative transit options and highlight the availability of shuttle buses, local buses, and other Metro lines.
Looking Forward
Weathering these temporary challenges can help the Metro improve long-term rail service in downtown Los Angeles.
