Understanding Measure G’s Implementation in Los Angeles County

la county

Approved by voters in November 2024, Measure G brings major changes aimed at improving representation, transparency, and accountability in LA County government.

What You Need to Know

Measure G makes key changes to how LA County is governed:

  • Measure G increases the Board from five to nine members, with the goal of giving residents more local representation.
  • A new elected “County Executive” will oversee daily county operations, replacing the appointed CEO model in hopes of improving accountability.
  • A new ethics commission will enforce lobbying rules and investigate misconduct to ensure fair government practices.
  • A nonpartisan expert will review county policies to support informed decisions.
  • County departments must share their yearly budgets in public meetings to increase transparency.

The Board of Supervisors has created the Governance Reform Task Force to manage the implementation of these reforms and ensure they are carried out fairly and effectively.

Changes will happen over many years.

How It Impacts You

Measure G's implementation can have several impacts on the CRE industry:

More Local Representation: With a larger Board of Supervisors, property managers can have more chances to connect with county officials for specific areas.

This could result in a more responsive government on issues like permit delays, zoning, and infrastructure improvements affecting commercial properties.

More Transparency in County Decisions: Public budget presentations and an Ethics Commission could offer clearer insight into how county funds are spent, especially on infrastructure, economic development, and public safety projects affecting commercial properties.

Better Accountability for County Services: Changes in county leadership may improve services like inspections, public safety, and homelessness response, all of which affect property management and tenant satisfaction.
