AB 2433 Dies
Assembly Bill 2433 would have helped speed up the plan check process for many projects. Â
After passing the Assembly, the bill was held in the Senate Local Government Committee before being withdrawn by the author.Â
How It Impacts You
If passed as written out of the Assembly, it would have significant positive impacts for our members. Permit timelines remain a top issue for all members. Â
The provisions of the measure would have applied if a city or county took more than 30 days to complete a plan review. Â
The project applicant could then hire an approved third-party professional to do it instead.Â
This would help businesses avoid delays. As well as speed up project timelines, enabling developers and investors to:Â Â
- Reduce costs and financial risks from delays. Â
- Get new tenants moving in faster and start generating revenue sooner. Â
- Boost competitiveness by finishing projects on time. Â
- Promote responsibility and productivity.Â
The proposal did not apply to public buildings, health facilities, or buildings taller than 4 stories but would still have had a significant positive impact on our members. Â
And it also represented our industry going on the offensive! Â
So often, we are an industry that reacts to policy proposals. It’s great to take proactive action for positive change.  Â
Looking Ahead
Though it did not advance to the governor’s desk this year, it does not mean we should give up. Introducing a bill and having success in one legislative house is significant progress.Â
And it is progress that we can build on in the future. As an industry, we must remain committed to advancing proactive solutions for the betterment of our communities. Â Â
